ACL Injury Prevention Program
Need: Soccer is the most commonly played sport in the world with an estimated 265 million active soccer players. Inherent to this sport is the higher risk of injury to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) of the knee. ACL injury causes the most time lost from competition in soccer of all injuries. Both male and female players are at increased risk, however female players are 6 to 10 times more likely to sustain an ACL injury. ACL injuries are serious injuries which have the potential to significantly inhibit or end the ability of the player to continue to play soccer.
Purpose: Recent research has shown that specific training programs have the ability to significantly reduce the risk of ACL injuries in soccer players. The purpose of this program is to educate and instruct coaches, parents and players on the need to prevent ACL injuries and demonstrate a scientifically proven training program for reducing ACL injuries.
